NYC: Home Time

So Newark airport is a great airport to fly out of if you want a new appreciation for every other airport you’ve ever been in.  There are at least 2 other airports to get you within an easy commute of Manhattan - JFK even has a flat rate from most cabs.

Drive out was good - cabby arrived instantly; it was almost creepy.  Checkout took seconds and was completely painless.

So on the plane now.   United is not an airline I ever feel the need to fly again.

  • Pretty well every flight we could hear boarding had oversold the plane (admittedly not ours) and was trying to pay people to take a different flight tomorrow.
  • All flights were making people check their carry on cause there wasn’t enough space on the plane. To me that’s just poor planning - set your rules to suit your plane so people can plan ahead.  Esp as batteries can’t go in cargo.  “We can only have 25 wheelie bags on the plan” - we’ll then sell 25 wheelie bag tickets and set your carryon rules to under seat only.
  • We had to pay $32 to select our seats but couldn’t get a boarding pass without, etc. etc. etc.
  • and the seats are hard.  😂. Economy is never comfortable but it can be an awful lot better than this.
  • No in-flight service.  Yes it’s a short flight and no it doesn’t matter, but Delta had service on the way out…
  • Their one-up from economy was significantly more expensive than Delta’s for less service.

They’re making Air Canada look good.  I didn’t think that was possible.  When other airlines pull it off smoothly it’s an airline issue not a “it’s an impossible task” issue….  I think it was the baggage one that annoyed me the most.   I’m fully onside w respecting any cargo rules - just lmk what real life will be so we can plan.  To be fair, mine all made it in the cabin 😂 but that was sheer luck.  C’s is in the cargo hold.
